Considering Adoption?

Adoption is an option more women consider than you might think, and the process today offers far more choice and control than most people realize. Choosing adoption is not walking away from your child.

It is making a deliberate plan for your child’s future while deciding for yourself how much involvement you want going forward.

At Carlisle Area Family Life Center, we offer free, confidential appointments where you can ask questions and get honest information about how adoption works. Exploring this option does not commit you to anything. It just helps you make a fully informed decision.

You Are in Control

One of the most important things to understand is that as an expectant mother, you are in control of your adoption plan. You choose the family. You decide the level of contact you want. You can change your mind at any point before the legal process is finalized.

Adoption fully transfers parental rights to the adoptive family, making it a distinct path from co-parenting. But beyond that legal reality, how your adoption looks is largely shaped by you.

Types of Adoption Plans

Open adoption allows you to choose the adoptive family and maintain ongoing contact, whether through visits, calls, letters, or photos, based on a mutual agreement between you and the adoptive family.

Semi-open adoption provides updates and some communication through an agency, without the direct exchange of personal contact information.

Closed adoption involves no ongoing contact after placement, with identifying information kept private on both sides. This option is less common but remains available for those who prefer complete anonymity.

What to Expect

Reputable adoption agencies provide support throughout your pregnancy and after placement. In most cases, adoption-related medical and legal costs are covered.

Our staff can connect you with trusted adoption professionals and help you understand each part of the process.
